Vintage road test: 1969 Charger 500 426 Hemi

From 1967 "Big" Bud Lindeman produced his own tv show called Car & Track. Dedicated to road testing the latest muscle cars and motorsport news, Lindeman wrote and narrated each episode himself. His classic delivery and brilliant commentary walks all over the less talented spate of modern auto show hosts. Below are some of Big Bud's brilliant lines from the road test of one of the all time bad boys - the 1969 Charger 500 426 Hemi (link to youtube video at the bottom)

“Where does the docility of a street machine end, and the fury of a full blown race car begin?”

“This is one of the quickest ways I know of to do your thing!”

“426 cubes delivering 425 horsepower – that’s about one horse per cube, and if that doesn’t excite you – you better check your pulse...”

“With street tyres we had more wheelspin than a Las Vegas roulette table...”

“Believe me, firing this car through a corner in a four wheel drift with power on is the type of thrill that’s not defined in your Funke and Wagnell...”

“It only gets 7mpg, and it’s noisy, but the Charger 500 is the type of a car that quickens your pulse - puts a fire in your gut, and really – that’s what supercars are all about...”
