The original Plymouth Barracuda of 1964 was a fastback Valiant with huge wraparound rear window. In Formula S guise, the Barracuda received bucket seats, floor shift, GT stripes and a hotter version of the 273 Commando V8 with 4bbl carb, hot cam and twin system. Later came a handsome standalone Barracuda that emulated the Mustang with coupe, fastback and convertible variants. Formula S moved up to a potent 340 V8 before the horsepower wars got in to high gear - Plymouth first offering the 383, then stuffing the monster 440 under the bonnet. From 1970 some variants became known as ‘Cuda but offered the same range of potent 340 small block, 383 and 440 big blocks, and of course the big daddy of them all - the mighty 426 Hemi V8.
Tunnel Ram has put together a gallery of original, vintage print advertisements that will take you from the start in ‘64 through to the sad demise of the ‘Cuda a decade later. Take a look back in time to one of the great American muscle cars from over half a century ago.
