The Holden Station Wagon Archive: 1956–2017

Before the SUV conquered the suburbs, the Holden Station Wagon was the undisputed king of the Great Australian Road Trip. From the debut of the FE Station Sedan in 1956 to the high-tech VF Sportwagon of 2017, the Holden wagon evolved from a "no-frills" workhorse into a sophisticated, V8-powered family cruiser.

The Golden Age of the Family Hauler Explore the early decades where toughness and cargo space were the top priorities:

  • The FE to HR Series: Documentation of the first-generation wagons that built the country, including the breakthrough EH—the first to offer the "Red Motor" and higher levels of luxury.

  • The Full-Size Kings: High-resolution scans of the massive HK, HQ, and HZ wagons. This was the era where the family car grew up, offering V8 engines, air conditioning, and the popular Vacationer holiday packs.

The Commodore Era & The Sportwagon As the market shifted, the Holden wagon reinvented itself for a new generation:

  • The VB to VS Series: Relive the transition to the European-style Commodore platform, including the long-wheelbase VN–VS models that offered class-leading cargo room.

  • The Final Evolution: The archive concludes with the VT through to the VFII, showcasing the shift toward the "Sportwagon" styling—combining sleek performance with the utility Australians relied on for over sixty years.

Models Featured: FE · FC · FB · EK · EJ · EH · HD · HR · HK · HT · HG · HQ · HJ · HX · HZ · VB–VF II · Vacationer · Kingswood
