In the mid-1960s NASCAR ventured into the world of drag racing by launching what it labeled an “international” drag-class competition. In 1966, the sanctioning body organized a series of international meets. The inaugural season saw Joe Jacono crowned Fueler Circuit champion, with Melvin Yow taking the Grand Stock title. The following year the titles went to Ron Rivero and Dan Smoker, respectively. Sadly the NASCAR drag division was short-lived, folding after just two seasons
