in 1960 Ford Australia started producing right hand drive versions of the new American Falcon, and continued making local variants of the For US ‘compact’ until the locally designed XA of 1972. Along the way it created the greatest Aussie muscle cars of all time with the GT Falcons that dominated Australian touring car racing in general, and Bathurst in particular. Later came the muscular XA/B/C hardtops that allowed GT buyers to opt for a two door. From 1967 Ford also sold the long wheelbase luxury Fairlane and from ‘72 - the LTD, plus Falcon utes, panel vans and wagons. Engines ranged from 170 to 250 cubic inch straight sixes, to V8s from 289 & 302 up to the mighty 351 Clevelands used in LTD, GT and racing Falcons from the 1970 XW to the XE of 1983. Ford sold several UK/Euro models in Oz too - the Cortina, Escort and sporty Capri coupes.
