Vintage Morris Print Ads: The Backbone of British Motoring

Founded in 1919 by William Morris, Morris Motors became an industrial titan, commanding over 40% of the British market by 1926. Though later absorbed into BMC and British Leyland, the marque never lost its approachable, everyday character. From dependable family saloons to the ubiquitous commercial fleets that kept post-war Britain moving, Morris was the undisputed soundtrack to domestic life until the badge was retired in 1984.

This curated archive brings together original Morris print advertisements and factory brochures from the immediate post-war era through the late 1960s.

  • The Mighty Minor: Vibrant media tracking Sir Alec Issigonis’s "bulletproof" masterpiece across its diverse body styles—including the two/four-door saloons, Tourer convertible, pickup, and wood-framed Traveller estate.

  • Saloons & The Indian Connection: Nostalgic print layouts for the Oxford and Isis families. This includes the Oxford Traveller wagon, whose rugged saloon sibling became the immortal Hindustan Ambassador in India until 2014.

  • Commercial Workhorses: Utilitarian advertising for the Morris J2 vans, minibuses, and pickups—the definitive staples of British high streets throughout the 1950s and '60s.
