The Chrysler Valiant & Regal Archive: 1962–1981

From the first R-Series in 1962 to the final CM in 1981, Chrysler Australia carved out a reputation for engineering excellence and superior performance. While based initially on the US Plymouth, the "Aussie Val" quickly evolved at Tonsley Park into a unique breed of high-powered, durable sedans that remain some of the most respected cars in Australian history.

The Evolution of a Legend This archive documents the chronological history of the Valiant and Regal through original print advertisements:

  • The Early Era (1962–1969): High-resolution scans featuring the R & S Series, the AP5 (the last of the push-button gear selects), and the AP6—the first local car to offer a V8 with the 273 Commando.

  • The Hemi Revolution (1970–1975): Explore the transition from the bulletproof 225 Slant Six to the locally developed Hemi-6 (215, 245, and 265 ci). This era also saw the debut of the high-performance Pacer and the VJ series, the first local car to feature electronic ignition.

  • The Final Era (1976–1981): Documentation of the CL and CM ranges, showcasing the transition to "Electronic Lean Burn" technology and the final, refined Regal SE sedans before the last car rolled off the line in 1981.

Engineering Innovation at Every Level Whether you are a collector of the classic VC, VE, and VF models or a fan of the sophisticated CM luxury sedans, these authentic ads provide a definitive visual record of Chrysler's nineteen-year run as a powerhouse of Australian manufacturing.
